In May 2008,  I heard ‘The Vagina Monologues’ was playing in Lagos. I’d fervently hoped to attend the show.  One of my strongest reasons was the cast. It starred great and seasoned Nigerian actresses that I truly admired; Kate Henshaw, Bimbo Akintola, Omonor Imobhio and of course the young new and immensely talented Kemi Lala Akindoju, who had just turned 21. Unfortunately, my dream didn’t pan out and I missed seeing that production. I added it to my list of plays to see before I turned 40.

Fast forward to 2011 in Toronto, Canada (and yes, I’m 3 years shy of 40, so its still within my time frame..lol). I was at an ‘Olde Time Family Picnic’ hosted by the multi-faceted and talented Ms. Angel Freedman of Angel Freedman Consulting(who’s just a fabulous human being and a great asset to the community). I saw a couple of flyers on the booth next to mine and behold ‘ The Vagina Monologues’ is going to be playing in my neck of the woods!! Hoorah!!

This is one opportunity I won’t be missing. The WWN team will definitely be there, especially as the proceeds will benefit the Women’s Support Network of York Region (also known as The Rape Crisis Centre of York Region). Come out with your friends and loved ones to hang out with us and support a great cause. You’ll be entertained, empowered, inspired and uplifted.
