The last time I posted an entry on this blog, I’d set up an appointment to see my doctor regarding my exercise regime and getting tips on a healthier diet. I learnt a lot about ‘good carbs’ and ‘bad carbs’, saturated and non saturated oils, fibre, ‘gluten’ and ‘gluten free‘, antioxidants…..Gosh, I didn’t realize there was so much to simply eating right!!!
One other important thing I discovered from my doctor was that lots of undesirable conditions are mostly symptoms of a bad diet: insomnia, poor libido, bad skin, stress, migraines, mood swings/irritability…you name it, there are foods, nuts/grains or vegetables/fruits that either cause the a fore conditions or alleviates them.
The task seemed daunting enough and my confidence level was at an all time low until I took the body-fat composition and BMI tests-the results: 46% and 30.5 respectively! To say I was shocked at the results is of course the biggest understatement of the year.
In lay man’s terms, I am not in a very healthy place and getting back in shape is no longer just to boost my confidence or as my kids would say, to increase my ‘cool factor’. It dawned on me that the number one reason why I MUST succeed with this journey is to have a healthier, fitter and balanced life so that I may enjoy quality time with my family and friends and vice versa.
