Do more of these activities if you really want a ‘Happy’ New Year! :-)

The human body is as mysterious as it is interesting. It is one huge mass of chemical hormones, glands, enzymes and cells. A little imbalance in the chemistry of the body can lead to mood changes, loss of appetite, increased appetite, insomnia and even severe depression.

Thanks to advances in medical science and alternative healing, more light is being shed on the different ways to naturally enhance the body’s optimal state and performance without resorting to drugs.

If you want a ‘Happy’ New Year, it may be necessary to pay attention to the ‘Happy Hormones’ in your body. Two ‘mood-enhancing’ chemicals you should note are Serotonin/Melatonin and Endorphins.  Both of them play a huge role in controlling mood swings. Healthy-foods

Serotonin/Melatonin: These are neurotransmitters and control the functioning of the nervous system and thus regulate moods, sleeping and eating patterns.

Serotonin is produced during the day and Melatonin is produced at night. Severe Serotonin imbalances may make people more prone to depression.

Endorphins: These are hormones that work with the endocrine system. Often referred to as the ‘Happy Hormones’ According to Wikipedia,

Endorphins are produced by the pituitary gland and the hypothalamus in vertebrates during exercise, excitement, pain, consumption of spicy food and orgasm. They resemble the opiates in their abilities to produce analgesia and a feeling of well-being. Endorphins help control pain and work as “natural pain relievers.”

Some activities to boost your ‘Happy Hormones’:

1. Prayer and meditation: Whether in a group setting or in solitude, the healing powers of prayer and meditation cannot be over-emphasized. Happy hormones are released during worship, singing, chanting or meditative breathing.

2. Exercise: A good work-out releases Endorphins in the body. It creates a feeling of euphoria and sense of achievement. People who exercise regularly are healthier, feel sexier and are also wealthier (because they are more productive and/or creative). Overall, they feel great and have a good sense of well-being.

3. Passion Foods: Diet is very important as different foods affect the body positively or adversely. Happy hormones are released when you eat more dark chocolates, spicy foods and passion foods (foods that enhance sexual appetites) such as mangoes, avocado, almonds, raw oysters, celery, eggs and bananas.

[Check with your doctor(s) to find out what vitamins/supplements your body requires as you get older. Also, cut down on refined sugars and processed carbohydrates, especially if you are over 40 years old].

4. Dance: It’s finally time to sign up for that salsa class! However, any dance would do, it may be the waltz, hip-hop, afro-dance, jazz, tango or line dancing. As long as you’re shaking those hips and tapping those feet, your happy hormones will keep coming!

5. Sex: Foreplay, hand-holding, warm embraces, loving hugs, sexy word-play, ‘sexting’ and good old orgasm are great sources of happy hormones!

5. Reading: You cannot experience everything you wish to in life. That is why there are books. Read different genres, diverse authors and travel to places as you experience life while cuddled up on your comfortable couch.

6. Conversation: Have conscious, meaningful, deep, fun and illuminating conversations. Connect with people, learn to listen more and share. Be present.

7. Good Deeds: Find time and space in your life and heart to give back, volunteer, pay-it-forward. Expect nothing in return. Giving is its own reward.

8. Passion: That uncontrollable, consuming , over-the-top emotion? Yes! It’s a good thing to be passionate about life, people, hobbies, causes etc

9. Laughter: Smile more and choose to be happy. Practice positive self-talk and develop strong coping mechanisms to deal with stress and challenging situations. Feel sorrow and always have a good cry when you feel like it as it is a good way to de-stress and release happy hormones. However, do NOT fall into the trap of letting yourself to become drowned or paralyzed by your sorrow.

10. LOVE More! This is by far my favourite activity on the list. Fall in love, even if you’ve had your heart-broken in the past, choose to open up your heart and love unconditionally. Other kinds of platonic love also count-Agape love, Sibling love, Love from a deep friendship, Parental love etc. Choose love over hatred or indifference. Allow yourself the beauty of healing and the choice to experience that magical feeling. We are pure molecules of love (or at least that’s what I believe) 🙂

And so, since this is our innate state of being, the more connected we are to love, the more connected we are to God and with all of creation. This aligns all our intentions, creates a deepened sense of awareness and attention. And ultimately creates more joy and alignment between our desires & dreams in the formless world and the reality of their manifestation in the physical universe. Truth, Compassion, Empathy and Forgiveness are keys to fully experiencing love.

Remember, love is more beautiful when lived out as a verb, through our actions. Like I always say, in the conjugation of life’s verbs, TO DO is far more powerful than TO SAY. Calibrate your love through actions. We can all talk the talk, the differentiator is walking the walk!

So, in a nutshell, do more of these practical activities to ensure you have a very Happy New Year!

P.S: A quick suggestion, instead of new year resolutions, have sacred contracts with yourself. Find someone you trust to hold you to your promises to yourself. Think of your declarations, not as ‘resolution’ but as a DECISION to bridge your personal integrity gap.

Be realistic, honest and aware of your patterns of thoughts-words-actions. Congruence in small things allows new pathways of discipline to form for seemingly tougher decisions. Start small, and make incremental changes. Then, as your neurology becomes more developed, take the bigger leaps.

Live powerfully, passionately and purposefully!

My Prayers For You in the New Year!

today“Begin today to BE who you’ve always wanted to BECOME, for tomorrow, you would wish you had started yesterday and then again, tomorrow may well be too late.” ~Anonymous~

My prayers for you this year: Make this be the year you take personal RESPONSIBILITY for BOTH your awesomeness and your crap! (What is your ability to RESPOND to whatever life throws at you?) If it’s showing up in your physical universe, you created it, (consciously or Unconsciously). You are a CO-CREATOR with God, OWN it! Make 2014 your year of boldness and courage.

Become more RESILIENT, you’re made of stronger and sterner stuff! Stop blaming, justifying, excusing the sh*t in your life by pointing fingers outwards. Everything is possible, period! Enter the co-creative zone and ask yourself: How can it be done? Who and what are the resources I have? Reach out and form synergies with others. Stop judging, and start accepting and empathizing. It’s life, we’re all basically going through the same challenges, they just show up in different colours.

You are a reflection of everyone around you, learn from others. Embrace your humanity and celebrate your divinity. It’s all YOU! Look inwards, you have the power to reset your internal thermostat in all areas of your life: energetic, social, physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, financial…

Stop playing the compare and contrast game. That is the basis of ALL unhappiness. Your name is not ‘EVERYBODY’. You are a unique BEING, with unique values and beliefs. You are a beloved child of a loving God, live it! You have the power of choice, exercise it and be accountable for your actions and (in)actions!

Nobody’s doing anything to you that you did not first do to yourself. Build a bullet-proof, rock solid relationship with your CREATOR. Get out of the prison of the generation that accepts: “My PASTOR SAID”, “MY ENEMIES ARE AFTER ME”, “I HAVE SUFFERED”, “THE LEADERS ARE TO BLAME”,…Become more involved in your own life.
Pleeease, a KING died for YOU! Not a hair on your head can be touched without his express permission. Why choose to be part of a generation that craves entitlement without responsibility? Take ownership of your life, it’s yours after all!

Stop perpetuating the myth of old, healed pains of the past as if they were still real. Tell yourself EMPOWERING stories and move on. Yes, decide to move on. Let TIME do what it does best: heal. Ask yourself who benefits when you refuse to own your magnificence? Who does it serve when you choose to stay stuck and refuse to be yourself? What are you permitting and settling for as ‘truth’ in your life? What are you accepting into your life? You get to DECIDE! Be kind and gentle, yet have healthy boundaries. Claim Wisdom as a best friend. Surrender to her, she’ll guide you well. Embrace the gift of eloquent SILENCE. It is the zone of beautiful creativity and growth!

Know yourself! You are always changing and growing and evolving. Re-introduce your new self to you and others around. Fall deeply, passionately, totally in love with you! Until you really know, accept, forgive and love yourself, no one else can! Understand and embrace your passions, pains, weaknesses and strength. The mystery to love is that it is complete in itself. It exists, even without an object of affection. Know this kind of love in your lifetime, it’s already yours.

We are drawn to others not only because of shared passions but also because of our unhealed pains. If you are in someone’s life or vice versa, then there’s a unique purpose and reason why. No one’s role is to complete you, stop setting people up for a fall! We are all here to heal, create, share, love and bear witness to one another, of HIS amazing grace. Know when to hold on and fight for love, also know when to let go and set love free. Celebrate finding love and celebrate also getting your heart-broken. For a heart that loves is a heart that is full and a heart that is broken, is a heart that is open, ready, willing and strong enough to love fully and completely.

Move over from the ‘woe me’ quadrant, into the ‘WOW ME’ zone. Fill your cup so that you can better serve others around you. It is SELFISH to keep playing the role of ‘VICTIM’ when you know deep down that you’ve been made VICTORIOUS by God’s abiding grace. And make every moment of your time in life, (even on social media), well worth it. If you’re not growing, you’re dying. Choose LIFE, and live passionately, purposefully and powerfully. DECIDE and Choose to have a wonderful New Year!

This year, may you #BeMore! Whatever ‘more’ means to you. (Apologies to a great coach and mentor, Sandi Krakowski).

Listen more, learn more, love more, laugh more, lean in more, and live passionately, purposefully and powerfully! Happy New Year, everyone! Goodbye past and HELLO present, let’s go create a fabulous future…

As 2014 approaches, here are 14 habits you may consider letting go of …

HabitSome habits you may have to say goodbye to as the new year approaches:

1. A lack of curiosity about life, people, things, places, events. You have to be interested to be interesting. You have a pulse, use it!

2. Complaining, blaming and justifying everything and everyone. Begin to take personal responsibility and focus on the results you want. Stop believing the fallacy that it can not be done and instead ask yourself: ‘how do I get it done?’

3. Lack of F.U.N and laughter in your life. You have challenges, we get it. So does everyone else on the planet. Why not have fun along the way as you try to figure out this maze called life? Who benefits from a colourless, drab, and sad life?

4. Lack of adequate sleep and rest. You can attempt to play games with Mother nature but expect to lose, period!

bad habits5. Eating to feed your pain rather than to nourish your body. There’s a huge difference between the two.

6. Not asking for help and trying to do and control everything yourself. You are not indispensable. Stop playing God. You are definitely not God, (come to think of it, even God has angels as helpers) and he uses mere mortals in his co-creative job.

7. INGRATITUDE! Be thankful for everything and everyone. Nothing is too insignificant. It all matters.

8. Living on auto-pilot without pause for personal silence and reflection. Your life-train will crash if it does not stop and undergo periodic maintenance!

Replace9. Saying yes to just about everything out of fear, insecurity or a need to control others. Say yes or no from a place of power.

10. Lying to yourself. This is the worst lie you can ever tell. Sometimes, you may have to lie to others out of love or protection. Do NOT EVER LIE TO YOURSELF because you still get to live with yourself. Stop such needless torture!

11. Stop criticizing your body. Love it, accept it, celebrate it. It’s all you’ve got. To get a brand new one, you basically have to die, okay? For now, this present body is your only home, so treat it with respect, clean it up and enjoy it. (Unless, of  course, you’ve mastered the art of magically transporting yourself to a different body! 🙂 )

jim Rohn12. STOP Texting and Driving, at the same time. Whatever it is, it can wait! Nothing is that urgent. Better be late than to be ‘the late’. Not yet convinced? Spend a full day watching all the YouTube ads by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving).

13. Are you still telling ‘woe me’ stories over and over again? Everyone is dealing with their own crap, don’t add to the crap mountain! 2014 is a good time to stop this habit.

past callsStill take time to feel all your feelings and vent when warranted, but do not become a permanent venting machine. That sh*t gets old really fast. Learn from your past, even take short visits there. However, do not take up permanent residency in the past! Tell ‘WOW ME’ stories, they’re more fun for you and everyone around you. Trust me!

14. Stop sitting on the fence. You will hurt yourself. There’s no life in the ‘grey zone’, make a choice, any choice and course-correct as you go along.

Life is not meant to be perfect. It is meant to be lived. Go out and live, now! 2014 awaits.

UnlearnLet go of the unhealthy habits, (especially if they no longer add value or serve your purpose), and replace them with healthier and cooler ones.

Learning is a continuos journey, take it one small step at a time. If you can learn, you can always unlearn. It’s a choice. DECIDE now.

10 Little Things that can make a Big Difference in your life in 2014!

Ghandi“Personal transformation can and does have global effects. As we grow, so does the world, for the world is us. The revolution that will save the world is ultimately a personal one.” ~Marianne Williamson~

“As we prepare for a new year, take the time to fall madly, deeply and passionately in love, with yourself! Re-discover yourself as you truly are: a beloved child of a loving God.

This is the season of Re-Birth and New Beginnings. A KING was born to and for you! You are that special and wonderful! OWN your magnificence. NEVER let the outside world strip you of your essence and dignity.

YOU are a precious gift to the world. Live passionately, purposefully and powerfully. Dream wonderful dreams and create beautiful memories…” ~#UNLockingYourHeArtofLeadership~

Just a few more days to go and the New Year will unveil itself! What are your goals, dreams and aspirations for 2014? Forget about mere ‘resolutions’, begin to make ‘Sacred Contracts’ with yourself. What do you desire to achieve by December 31st, 2014? WHO do you want to be by the end of next year? Begin to BE that person from this moment.

Napoleon HillStarting NOW, speak it as if it were already done. Step out in FAITH and walk your talk. God opens up the universe with the right people and opportunities once we KNOCK and ASK, and actually stand in the firm expectation that the door will be OPENED and you will RECEIVE. Surrender and Allow yourself to soar!

Here are some ‘little’ things that if you imbibe and practice, will transform your life in 2014:

1. Accept that you can never please everyone, stop trying to, period! Practice the habit of saying an empowered ‘YES’ or ‘NO’ when appropriate (rather than acquiescing to everything from everyone based on your own fears of insecurity, judgement, unworthiness or societal pressure). Build up healthy boundaries, you will enjoy your life better that way.

2. Stop comparing yourself to others because all you can ever be is you, duh? The compare and contrast game  drains you and leaves you bereft of the creative energy to be the best you possible!

3. Let go of the past, stop worrying about the future and live the heck out of the present moment! You can only do so much, choose the path you have the most control over. Choose to live in the NOW!

4. Become more empathetic. Stop judging people and start focusing more on being the best you, every.single.day! Decide to love more. Pay more attention to the people already in your life. Sometimes, we seek more people and opportunities outside our existing circles. However, we may get more value by looking inwards and consolidating the existing relationships we already have.

5. Learn to live within your means. Anything else, is a recipe for disaster.

6. Have a clear vision for your year, break down your plans into quarterly, monthly and weekly goals. A day before, set your intentions for the next day and pay attention to your intentions. Become more congruent. Let your actions align with who and what you want for yourself.

7. Quit lying to yourself. There are no excuses or reason for your failure(s). YOU are the only person standing between your purpose and destiny. In 2014, tell yourself only empowering stories. Begin to see your ‘failures’ as feedback for how and where to course-correct in your life’s journey. Be gentle and forgiving of yourself and your so-called ‘mistakes’. Surrender and accept your humanity. And also arise and embrace your divinity. You are a sacred mystery, your life may not always make sense, stop trying to figure it all out, and just focus on living it well.

8. Join a group of like-minded people and volunteer your time, expertise, money, energy, towards a worthwhile cause. Make a difference, no matter how small. Surround yourself with people who see and bring out the light in you. You are a being of light and love, decide to plant yourself in garden(s) that will nurture your growth. Do more of what you love and obliterate the negativity in your life.

9. Take better care of your body, it is your sacred vessel for being. Have a fun activity or sport(s) you engage in regularly. Practice the 80-20 rule of good nutrition; eat a minimum of 80% healthy foods and indulge in a maximum of 20% of …(fill in the blanks) 🙂

10. Carve out resources and dedicate them to your personal development, in all areas of your life (Health, Finances, Community, Leisure, Spirituality, Your Purpose/Passions, Mental/Emotional growth etc). If you’re not growing, you’re dying. You cannot do both simultaneously. Choose to grow, evolve and transform your life.

Whatever you do, do NOT sit on the sidelines. Get off the toxic fence and LIVE! Life is waiting for you, take that next step, and amaze even yourself!
